I need help. I'm working on a friends computer. It is a Compaq V2000 running XP home edition. Long story short. He got a virus or malware, I went through the malware cleaning, and it seemed to get rid of it but here is my problems:

1) When the computer boots up, it takes a while to bring up the desktop items.
2) Once desktop is up everything seems to run fine, However, I can't get internet access, it just sits there and says acquiring network address.

After I did a malware clean, I installed Norton AV.
Other things I've done, was ran an OS repair, Re-downloaded all the drivers. I'm sending this via my laptop, so I'm not sure how I can post logs. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank
Tony

I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the
START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own.
If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum.
If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

You can download the prorgams you will need during the malware cleaning and burn them to a cd and then use them on the infected system. Save all logs as txt files and burn them to cd (Hopefully you have a cdrw disk) and then copy and paste them to the malware topic
