Hello All, not trying to beat a dead horse but will be traveling this winter to Southern.USA states in an RV. Any suggestions or real experience with secure internet connectevity hardware we can use to get e-mail, check accounts, brouse internet. We currently use US Cellular for phone and Vista on our HP-G-60. Thanks, scroc.

Hi scroc and welcome to Geeks to Go.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking, but will take a stab on a few things.
Your laptop should be protected with virus scanners, malware, and spyware scanners that are up to date. This would be true even from within your home. You should never click on links or open emails that are questionable.

I assume you will be stopping at campgrounds along the way. Most (if not all) offer wi-fi capability. Some are unsecured (open access) and anyone including the person going down the street can get on it. Others will be secured and if you are staying at the campsite, you will get an access code to be able to log on and get to the internet. This keeps the people driving down the street from using the service and minimizes possible hacking.

Hope this explains what you need.

Thanks 123runner, have AVsecurity thru Charter.net and secure system at home. Have used wifi thru various campgrounds in the past with older laptop. Will be staying outside regular camping areas on BLM land in desert and have cell service available, wanted to know if other folks have tried any of the cell phone systems for internet use, or even sat tv systems?

Sorry I do not have any info on that.
Hopefully some one else will respond for you.
Good luck.

i use my HTC touchpro with Verizon service as a tethered modem all the time...with EVDO you get close to DSL speeds and as long as the signal is good it's a very constant connection..

US Cellular offers cellular modems with a contract that allows you to connect anywhere that you get service...just like any other cell company... you'd want to look into getting one of those
