I have a very, very slow Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP. Boot time is ~30 minutes and trying to launch any program takes at least another 30 minutes. Any application that tries to run pegs the CPU at 100% for the entire (30 minutes or more) launch. Memory usage is ~450 - 700MB (1.5GB is installed).

This problem started about two weeks ago. I've tried running through your Malware and Spyware Cleaning guide but can’t get past step 4, the RootRepeal program won’t run. Malwarebytes didn’t report any problems, nor did the Avira anti-virus scan. I’ve also previously run SuperAntiSpyWare, Spybot, AVG Free and AdvancedWindowsCare with no problems identified. When I try to run RootRepeal the computer warns me that the virtual memory is low and then the computer hangs.

Any suggestions?
