it seems like a reliable source, so i'll do that when i can.

well, i ran the batch file on the computer, windowsupdate is now fully functional, installed all the updates, and now the computer runs like a slug (literally and figuritively)

the processor is always running at 100% no matter what happens, taskmgr.exe usually takes up about 37% when we open it all the time, and then other programs take up between 10-20%. it takes about 10min to turn on the computer and let all the startup programs open up. i noticed that a few things had returned like a few items in the hjt logs, i ran through all your instructions again on this thread and made sure i followed them like you said to. i'm now running in safe mode w/networking.

I see processes of the firewall and the AntiVirus

Got Norton Uninstalled. System performance is a little better, but it still takes about 3 or 4 times longer to boot, login, run programs, etc. Doing a system restore to a point before SP-2 was installed. Maybe this will help. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for all that's been done.
