can it do a continuity check? example, put one lead on each end of a wire, does it beep or light up to show that signal is passing.

OK, great. lets start with the left channel. put the leads into the connectors for left in and left out. I suspect they will show they are connected.
same then for right channel, then ground. its the ground I am most interested in...do the 2 ground leads have labeling, like for mic or line or something?

oops, didnt see that last one u just wrote, the grounds are exactly the same, even the same wire color. there is no way to distinguish between the two

its all working? great! I assumed you were just at the starting point of building a system. you have working audio for h/p, and the mic works too? if so, no need to go testing for continuity, it has been proven to be the case.
