One week ago a Verizon representative was helping me get my XboxLive to work and after he updated my Westell 327W modem/gateway it crashed. Well, Thursday afternoon I finally received the new modem which is a Westell Model 7500 which can do wireless.

I have DSL high speed internet, and I am relatively content with the speed it offers. After the week of no internet, and a new modem, my overall internet speed has decreased dramatically. I am really frustrated because of the trouble I have been put through for the last week and all I want is my normal internet speed back.

The pages load slowly, updating AVG Anti-Malwarebytes and Superanitspyware takes much longer than before. The AVG updates which are only 4000KB or so has an estimated time of 40 plus minutes to update. That's just not right; according to AVG I was download the update at 6KB/S.

I spoke with Verizon and all they could tell me is that my line is working fine on their end and the speed is fine when they run the line-test. I was told that the problem is with my computer; that I find hard to believe since I haven't touched my computer for over a week when my internet was working perfectly.
I'm not sure if this next information will help but according to my Task Manager, my adapter name is local area connection my network utilization percent is zero my link speed is 100Mbps and the state is operational.
So please I really would sincerely appreciate any help, any suggestions so I can have my old internet back and be relieved of this problem once in for all. Thank you.

As an update, earlier today my internet speed finally came back, but within the last hour it went back down.
Sorry I meant to edit this into my previous post, is there a way to delete this post?

Not sure if I can help you, but these are links to different sites to check your Internet connection. Some are more accurate than others, but all should given you some idea:

http://www.bandwidth....com/speedtest/
http://www.dslreports.com/tools
http://www.broadband...s.com/speedtest
http://www.consumera...dband_test.html
http://reviews.cnet....net-speed-test/
http://tech.msn.com/speedtest.aspx
http://myspeed.visua....com/index.html
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
http://speedtest.net/index.php

I like this one: http://speedtest.net/index.php

If you can, try to pick servers in each that are about same distance from you. Maybe compare nearest server with furtherest one.

The problem is solved: turned out that AVG was blocking my connection in one way or another.

Great news. I use AVG and have for years. Never had that problem though. At least the holidays are looking brighter for you. Thank you for posting back and letting us know.
