I downloaded a Canon printer exe file which unzipped successfully but I couldn't find out where it was (no message to save it somewhere).

Then I found the 20 or 30 Canon printer files sitting on my desktop which I cannot get rid of. I can delete them from there individually but they always reappear.

(I later found my old Canon CD and successfully installed from that)

Can anyone advise on how to delete them permanently? The desktop cleanup wizard doesn't help.

Something is recreating those icons...

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Click Options, then Hide Microsoft Entries.
Click File, then Refresh.
Go File>Save, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Attach AutoRuns.txt file to your next reply.

Thanks for that. I have the autoruns.arn file in My Docs but... Then in the reply field I 'select file'from My Docs and then click 'upload' I get the message that I have not chosen a file.
That .arn file is 5MB in size and the attachment limit appears to be 500k - is that the problem?

I must be doing something wrong - can you advise please?
If you are interested in only the info on Canon files which I see in the autoruns I may be able to send that By copy and paste?

Oh you said the .txt file - maybe that's the problem - I'll see if I can find that file! Hold on.

When saving Autoruns log, make sure, you save it as .txt, not .arn
You have to redo.

OH I didn't Refresh!! I think I have it now.

NO I'm still stuck. The cnmlm53.dll file in the autoruns page is 100kb size. When I save it to My Docs it becomes 1.6MB. This perhaps is as it should be but I have no experience in this procedure. I still could not attach any of this.

As I'm still going wrong I do need some advice please.

I don't see anything, what would be recreating those files.
Can you post few sample files names?
