My daughter has a Dell Inspiron 1525. She didn't realize her charger wasn't working, and the laptop ran out of juice and shut down. Since then, we we try to start it up, it gets to the point where you would usually be able to log in to Vista, but instead, the screen goes black. There is a mouse pointer in the middle of the screen which you can move, but it doesn't do anything. Same thing happens in safe mode. I have tried booting to the Vista CD and do the Repair, but it says nothing is wrong. I did some searches and tried some things I read, but nothing is helping. Please help!

Im pretty sure that power is PART of the problem. Mine does that too but it goes through to the login screen.

Sorry if I misinterpreted your message. I am using a backup power supply that works just fine. The only problem caused by the original power supply was the fact that the laptop ran out of battery power and shut off.
