So my computer doesn't actually give the bsod its just when i restart i get the windows has recovered from a serious error code 50. I did blue screen viewer and it says hal.dll driver is the reason. Bug check string: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA .
So i have googled and googled but everything that comes up is about xp not vista and this error. I found a new hal.dll file but vista won't let me replace it because i don't have permission. Also i have tried using the vista disc to do start up recovery. It didn't fix it. So any help would be awesome and I'm new to the forum.

You might need to turn off UAC or boot in safe mode. That usually fixes permission errors.
