Missing files - XP Home

Hopefully someone can help on this one:

As per a previous post, I recently had a nasty virus on my XP. I was able to successfully remove it (hopefully), but since then, I have noticed several files are now missing, most notably several MP3 files, as well as the Notepad program. I figured either the virus did this, or in the process of restoring my XP operating system they may have been deleted.

My question is obvious: Is there a way to restore these files? If so, where would I look to find the deleted files?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
