Okay I finally got it to run. It said it was verifying system. I left and came back in a little while and there was nothing on the screen: no results or scan report.

You won't see any.
Check, if whatever wasn't working, works now...

"The disk OS (C:) has errors.

Windows has detected file system corruption on OS (C:). You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored.

Check the disk for errors"

It is the reinstallation DVD, so that's not considered full version?

No, that won't do.
I'm afraid, you're facing backing up your data and reinstall.

You can try one more thing, though...

I suggest that you start a new topic in the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal area.

Before you start a new topic click on this link --> Malware and Spyware Cleaning Guide, Please read before starting a new topic. This will give you a few preparations to make, as well as instruction for posting your OTListIt2 log.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).

Okay, I'll post a thread on the malware/spyware forum and post back here when done if still have problems. I was wondering though if the error message that disk OS C: has errors is the result of a serious problem? Does it mean that something is really wrong with my computer? What other effects could it have other than not being able to do system restore?

Now you're entitled to make a new topic in "Waiting room" and you'll be lifted to the top of the ladder.
