Connection to the Internet

I am having a problem connecting to the internet on another computer. It has been disconnected from a modem for a year and a half, and during that time I disabled the lan connection. I just reattached the modem and enabled the lan connection but it will not open the internet because it cannot find an ip address. Can anyone help me connect?

is it a dial-up modem directly connected to PC??? if yes, then check ur modem connection and modem status... it has nothin to do with IP address or so.....||||||||||||||||||
if u r connecting thru LAN i.e it is thru switch device....u must have to give IP address in LAN properties or it must take from DHCP.
