My computer froze up while opening a couple of programs. I did a hard shutdown (held the power button) and when I try to reboot the system, it comes up the log in page, and then after entering my password, it goes to the Welcome loading Vista Page and will not go any further.

I can start it in safe mode and I have tried to do a restore to a few days earlier, and still when I try to sign in to normal mode, it still will not load past the Welcome loading Vista screen.

While in Safe Mode....

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.

Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.

Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.

NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.

Thank you for you information, I have Tried this and still am having the same problem. Anymore suggestions?

Disconnect any external devices, except for mouse and keyboard and try again.
