Hi unknown member,

Lets get this PC clean.

Please print out these instructions to make it easy to follow and to have access to them when you have to reboot your pc. Please read through them prior to commencing to do anything and if there is anything that you are unsure of, or do not understand, please contact me first for assistance.

I would like you to carry out the following free on-line virus scan and follow their instructions on removal of anything that it may find.

Panda Active Scan

Next please download the following two programs. Install them and update them both. Then run each one and have them fix anything that they may find.

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3

Ad-aware S E 1.5

Download a free 14 day trial of Ewido from the link below. Install it, follow instructions to update it and then close it down.

Ewido

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Please download Cleanup from here:
Cleanup. Do not run it yet.

Set up PC to show hidden files.(Click link if you do not know how)
Show hidden files

Click Start > Run > and type in:

services.msc

Click OK.

In the services window find System Startup Service.
Rightclick and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then OK. Exit the Services utility.

Reboot your PC into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key whilst your PC Starts up, select SAFE MODE.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.bat. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Now run Ewido and select scan. This may take some time. Once the first problem is found tick the box to allow it to repair everything else. At the end of thescan it will produce a report, please copy and paste the result into your next post.

Open up HJT and rescan and Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake. Some of them might not be there as they will have been removed in previous stages of the sequence. This is normal so do not be alarmed

Hi unknown member,

Well we are almost there.

Boot into SAFE MODE, rescan with HJT and check the following:

O2 - BHO: WinStat - {0A51FD8D-6835-4212-B796-AFC24F4D108A} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\WinStat10.dll

Ensure no windows open except HJT and click fix checked

Reboot normally, rescan with HJT and post the log back.

Hi Unknown,

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and AntiSpyware Net's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.

Cool, thanks man. I'll be downloading those programs on my computer so spyware can be avoided. But it's really mainly because my friend/family go on wierd website and gets that one grey box that says close this window on the bottom but theres also something checked and they just close the box which i beleive downloads the spyware and all the other crap. So now i just got a password on my computer. Once again, thanks alot for helping me out.

Hi,

There is nothing in your log which would make WMP open up, however you do now have an entry in trusted Zone. Do you have some sort of downloaded software from Neededware.com?

Re your WMP problem, there are two places to look

1. Start>All programs>Startup....Is wmp in listed in there

2.Start>Run> type msconfig>Services is it listed there if so untick, check apply and ok

or Start>Run> type msconfig>Startup is it listed there if so untick, check apply and ok

Hey, no there's nothing i see on the startup folder. I attached a photo of the msconfig i got. Please tell me if you find anything. Also ewido finds some files that deals with WMP sometimes. I clean them up but for some reason it still keeps coming up.
