I am about at wits end here. I have no sound on the internet, but I have it when I play Windows Media Player , I have installed a new driver, I have tried K - Lite, I have tried the registry editing spoken of previously and I get:

"The registry editor cannot rename New Value #1. The specified value name already exists. Type another name and try again."

Also, when I go to my Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio > Sounds and Audio > Sounds Tab, the Sound Scheme is set to Windows Default, but at the bottom, there is an option to play the sound that is chosen, but it is grayed out an uninteractable.

There is no start up music when I restart my computer. It has been about 2 weeks now that I have been scouring the internet trying to fix this problem.

Are you getting system sounds?
You say you get sound using WMP but what are you playing that you get sounds?
The K-lite is a codec pack for normally playing dvd's or videos.
What sites are you trying to hear sound from?

The songs in my library are what I am playing through windows media player and CDs.

I have tried Youtube and CNN. I know they are flash and I have uninstalled the flash player and re installed it.

How To Fix:

• Go to START-->RUN and type regedit to open the Registry Editor
• Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
• Now right-click on the heading Drivers32 and select NEW-->STRING VALUE.
• Call this new String Value wavemapper.
• Now double-click the wavemapper entry you just created and for the VALUE field, type in msacm32.drv and click OK.
• Close the Registry Editor and try watching a video on youtube again.

Have you tried to reset your browser back to default settings?
In IE go to Tools then to options
There should be a button to click to reset browser to default settings.

No luck. Do I need to find and delete the original wavemapper since that seems to be my problem? Trying to help you out a little...

I also use Firefox, but I did as you suggested, restoring the IE and no change.

Yes delete the old wavemapper and then try the steps.

I did a search in the registry for wavemapper and it is not found (yet when I try and add wavemapper it tells me it already exists).

I also searched for msacm32.drv and found it here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Nls\MUILanguages\RCV2\mcacm32.drv

I don't think thats where I need to be

There is a DEFAULT in the drivers section of the registry key, would you like me to do anything with that?

Sorry it is not a simple task to fix...I was hoping to figure it on my own...

Download no_sound_in_browsers.reg file to your desktop.
Double click on it, and allow registry merge.
Restart computer.

Broni, I did that and it still does not work.

Is there any information I can provide that may help?

Please Go to
1: STARTand the click on RUN
2: Type in devmgmt.msc
3: Click Enter

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

According to your picture everything is working correctly. Can you give us a couple of the sites direct links where you are not getting sound? We can check them out for you.

Youtube all videos, CNN, I have tried to play a couple Ecards on 123greetings.com and that didn't work either.

Don't know if this is helpful at all, but when I go to the sounds tab under sounds and devise management, the play button is greyed out, does that mean anything?
