Thanks Rshaffer61...

I just had a brilliant idea. (it happens once in a while).

newcomer21. Do you have the other drive (the old one that is supposed to be bad)?
If so, lets see if we can change the symptoms that we are having.
Put the other drive back in and try running a few checks.
See if it is recognized. See if RC will run. Try a drive check on it.

I just want to see what issues come up on the other drive. We have to try and determine whether your new drive is bad, or a controller is bad.
If controller is bad, then its the board and generally to expensive to replace.

HD is new, from Tigerdirect. Is the controller something that can be replaced? I don't have another system to test it with at this time, but may be able to work something out. I did find a refurbished mobo for $100.

Thanks,
newcomer21

The controller is part of the mother board.
The mother board is usually not worth the hassle and expense to replace. To many things can go wrong.

Try your original drive in the computer and see what happens.

well, now another obstacle. The RC ask for a password and I don't have one and when I press enter that doesn't work.
