So here's the deal: My laptop has a VGA port as almost all do. I have a JVC flat screen dvd with an HDMI port on it as well as a S-Video port which my laptop has also. The first thing I tried was the S-Video but it looked awful and cut off the left hand of the screen and no resolution or option will fix this. So online I ordered a cable that is a VGA to HDMI but when I hit fn-f4 and the computer screen just blinked. I took it to work and tried it on a projector VGA to VGA and it worked so I know the ports not bad. The only other option I have is to get another cable that is CGA to RCA component cable but the disclaimer said it's not capable to work with computers. I want to know if I can hook the up to my tv with good picture.

I don't think, it's possible.
We're talking analog (VGA) to digital (HDMI), high definition digital.
Surely, cable won't do, you'd need a converter, like this one: http://www.startech....-Converter.aspx, but why to waste $170 for something useless, since your TV picture will be still analog quality.
Your better option would be VGA to DVI, which is possible, since DVI carries both types of signals.
I assume, your TV doesn't have VGA port?

Nope. It doesn't have dvi either. What about the RGB cables. I have ports for that and they're buth analog right? But why did some one make a VGA/HDMI cable if it wasn't usable?

What about the RGB cables

That, most likely, should work.
