Dvd burner will not run CD's

im trying to get a hold of hitachi about this but no one is answering it just keeps ringing....not sure what to do :-(

ok so hitachi didnt help me and microsoft wants me to pay them 49 dollars to help!! any 1 please could you help??

So what are you trying to achieve - install software from a CD for your video camera?

i would like to be able to put any cd in and play it that is what i am trying to achieve....

It sounds like the CD lens inside the unit is dead. Cds and DVDs use different lens, so that explains why one works and not the other.
Simplest way to fix this is to replace the drive.

I know you most probably have,but have you got enable cd recording on this drive ticked?I only ask because the same thing happened to me once and I thought it was my cd lens but I went into the drives settings and it had unticked itself for some reason.

I agree with Troy. The cd lens is probably fried. A new drive would be the easiest to do. If you have someone you could borrow a drive from to test it will tell you very simply if this is the case. If the borrowed one works then the problem is the drive.

Did you check "Enable CD recording"? Does the different drive that you also tested work in another machine?
