Hi and thank you for giving me a place to go for my questions. :tazz:

One morning my Business Contact Manager (BCM) was fine and then a few hours later I could not open any of the contacts within. I did copy down a message right before this happened:

could not find the index entry for RID '16a 813000000100' in index page (1:4132), index ID0, database 'MSBusiness Contact manager'

I'n not sure how this site works yet, I would be grateful for some help. Please advise.

No experience with BCM at all, but just by reading it

you're going to have to help me out here....BCM relies on external storage, perhaps? Did you have an active connection to whereever the server is?

It certainly sounds like a failed connection to a database.

Business Contact Manager is an add on for outlook that ties into Microsoft Exchange server, I think though am not at all definate on this requires Exchange server 2003.

Going by the fact that you are using the latest version of Outlook it's a fair bet you are using XP on your computer, have you checked your event logs for around the time that error popped up?

I'm not actually sure how BCM works, are the contacts you stored locally to your computer or are they stored to the mailbox on your exchange server?

the_Jackal: Thanks. Yes, I am using XP. No I have not checked the event logs (I don't know how to do that, yet).

I have an update to my problem. I called Microsoft Support as I thought this was a continuation of a problem I had a couple of days before when I could not view the history portion of the contact. They couldn't help me either. Additionally, after I click on the contact, it EVENTUALLY does open, however; it takes about, oh, a minute or so.


gerryf: I work out of my home and as far as I know am not connected to an external server.

I'm running all the the prescribed checks that this site says to do and have not found any virus's yet. :tazz:

Go in to your control panel, admin tools and check the event logs from there, application and system.

you say you work from home so i can only assume that when you are using BCM you are on an active VPN connection yes?

check the logs and let me know what you find in the meantime i'll check looking to see what i can find.

Ive just been looking at BCM and found that it also works with POP 3 mail, are you using your BCM with a work email server or internet mail?

Hello. POP 3 sounds right. I use the internet. Wanted to mention that I loaded software for my Palm Zire before all this started to happen (Chapura is the software the Palm Zire uses) I looked up that log as you suggested and I found a recurring warning:

it certainly looks like MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM is a local database server for a local implementation of BCM.

I assume you have rebooted? And the problem persists? Looking again at the event log

(short cut, start > run
eventvwr.msc
<enter>

are there multiple instances of this?

I think I would reinstall the add in since the MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM service does not appear to be starting. It is possible that a palm service is interrupting the service from starting.

Have you tried uninstalling the palm as a test?

Yes, I have rebooted numerous times. Yes, it is a recurring warning. I have not removed the Palm software but will do so to test and see.

The Microsoft Tech took me through a very lengthy process and determined that nothing was wrong with BCM but that there might be a possibility that I have corrupt info in the BCM and that I might consider deleting it all and re-entering all of it. ;)

not a cause of this issue...that a monitor for network performance...services crap out all the time, and typically restart without you ever noticing it.

But MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM is definitely related to BCM

The MS tech may be correct.

if the database is crapped out, it's not going to be possible to restore it (probably), but you may be able to at least square this away by reading the above and following the directions

I went to File, Business Database, Maintenance, Start and it zipped along and found the index problem I mentioned earlier. Waaaahoo. This is a relief for me. I wonder why the MS Tech didn't suggest that.
