Hi again
I m looking for a program that will open zip files and also rar files.
I want a program that is freeware.
I am running windows XP

windows XP sp2 can open and create zip files

what do the rar's contain that you're trying to open?

Mainly it is office documents / pdf / c or other programing codes. (Not exe files)
It seems that more people are useing rar over zip files

get 7-zip it can open and create just about any compressed file type

No it doesn't, I've been using it for a few years, you get a nag screen when you open the program, but not when compressing/decompressing files. I'm not sure if it is illegal for me to still be using it though because it says "....is not free software. After 40 days you must either buy a license or remove it from your computer", I've never really thought about that :)

I need it for an orginization. At home most programs are free or just as you said "you get a nag screen when you open the program"

Ahh, then yes, you will normally need a license for most programs to be used within an organization/multiple computers.

Why not use the compression software included with XP, Vista or Win7?
Free alternatives are Gzip and 7zip

Right click on any file and in the window there should be the software for archiving.
Once you find it then open it and see what it will do.

Thanx dsenette I have looked at it from you'r first post on this thread.
It looks good and it has different language interfaces.
Just curious if there any other programs.
