I recently installed a copy of Office 2003 on my laptop running Windows XP home. I had this same copy on my older laptop w/ Windows 2000 for a year or so w/o any problems. First I was adding my email accounts, and it wouldnt synch the POP3 email accounts, just the Hotmail account.

If I hit the Send/Recieve button, it would say "The operation failed. An object could not be found."

However, if I did a Shift F9 and synched my hotmail account, my messages would download fine.

When I went to send an email from my hotmail account, I got: [Task 'Hotmail - Sending' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The operation failed. An object could not be found.']

I did uninstall it, and reinstall it, but that didnt chance the results.

Please help...

You probably are not using it, however, you can usually only access hotmail through Outlook if you pay or set it to use IMAP or HTTP which may be giving you the error.

I have my hotmail account set up using HTTP. This email, synchs with Outlook 2003, but doesnt allow me to send emails. My other email accounts are POP3 email accounts, and I cant even synch them or send emails.

Yes they do, I configured them exactly how I had them on my older laptop with Windows 2000.

Does test account settings tell you anything

When I tested account settings, all tasks were completed successfully for all POP3 email accounts configured, except Send Test Email. I get the following error:

Send test e-mail message: The specified server was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these settings close this dialog, then click More Settings and click on the Advanced tab.

I did this, but they are configured exactly how I used to have them on my older laptop. I also confirmed the port numbers with the various help sites that go along with my different emails. I have 5 emails in all. The three POP3 emails are giving me this problem. The two hotmail accounts, will download emails, but not allow me to send. Plus like I said whenever I hit the Send/Recieve button I get the message: The operation failed. An object could not be found. The Send/Recieve window doesnt even open, I just get the error message.

Wow thanks, that worked. I think it is working now. I have just one more small question, how do I get the Outlook Icon onto my desktop, not a shortcut icon, but I used to have an original Outlook 2003 on my desktop. Not a big deal, since you helped me so much already.

I clicked start then my computer then the local disc then programme files then microsoft office then office 11 then found the Outlook logo then pressed copy file then copied to desktop and it goes on as 190kb file, has Outlook underneath, if you right click then press properties you can set compatibility and digital signatures, or right click and open or run as.

A shortcut comes in as a 4kb file and if you right click you get general and shortcut.

Both behave like a shortcut.

Good that it seems to be running OK now.
