Ok so the memory is showing good then.
The issue seems to be the video card itself since you have downloaded and installed the most recent drivers available from Nvidia.
We've wiped the drivers clean and started from scratch
Tested memory with no problems there. Ran sfc scannow now with no resolution
Ran chkdsk .r with some resolution but it didn't continue.

Give this a try and see what it shows.
How old is the video card?

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Thanks to Broni for the instructions

sorry for the delay, i've been a little busy lately.
The last few days the freezing stopped a bit, it only happens once or twice a day now, but that's still pretty annoying. I've downloaded the software to test my hard, it's a western digital wdc wd5000aaks sata 500gb drive, and i get an error at the very begining of the test, at the cable test. I'm sure it's a sata drive, and the name of production says it also, the pata ones are aakp as far as i know. I tried quck testing and also extensive testing, with the same results.

Grr yeah that cable test error is something with the WD diagnostics version now. Try downloading the Sea Tools cd iso and running it. You should not get the error with Seagate's tools but it is compatible with most drives out now except for the Toshiba's I believe.
Let me know how that works for you. :)
