I downloaded this font:

http://www.dafont.co...hwood-high.font

for use on my PC, I run Vista on a Dell XPS from 2007. I move the font into the fonts folder in Windows, then a menu pops up asking me if i would like to continue, i click yes, then the screen goes normal again and the file I just moved into the fonts folder is not there.

You don't dump fonts in the Fonts folder.
If you go into the Fonts Folder on the Control Panel, press the left ALT key to show the menus, on the File Menu is an option, "Install New Font". Use that.
