Hi All
New here!
I have a real nail buster here, I have a HD from a computrt that crashed and I removed it from another computer and want to hook it to my Dell 4600 Win XP as a external HD to try to fix or reformat so I can use the HD. I have gotten the cables and hooked the power and used a USB cable to hook to my computer. The HD starts up and nothing happens, I get the USB not recinized error. Do I need software to get my puter to reconize the external HD?
The external HD is a Western Digital 120meg HD which was originaly C: drive on the other computer?
Now that we are totaly confused does anyone have any suggestions..LOL

Don :)

Hi wmauctions and welcome to Geeks to Go.

There are some possibilities.
I assume it is an ide drive.

You may have to try changing the jumper on the back to a master or slave or cable select.

I have gotten the cables and hooked the power and used a USB cable to hook to my computer.

I do not fully understand that comment because as a true external, it would be in a external case with only power and the USB cable.
Is the drive recognized in computer management?

I bought a cable set-up without a case which allowed me to hook-up the HD and run it from USB port has all hook-up needed to run just not a case. Thanks for th reply
