I am using Windows 7 - everytime I start up, I keep getting the message "required software not installed" microsoft.net version 2 is required to continue. I have been to the microsoft website to download it but it says that the software is not compatible with Windows 7. I am just trying to work out how to stop the message appearing everytime I start up. Can anyone help. Thanks

I suspect, some program calls for it.

Download Autoruns for Windows: http://technet.micro...s/bb963902.aspx
No installation required.
Simply unzip Autoruns.zip file, and double click on autoruns.exe file to run the program.
Go File>Save, and save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
Attach the file to your next reply.

I believe, these two services are responsible for your issue:
+ "clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_32" "Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN" "Microsoft Corporation" "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v2.0.50727\mscorsvw.exe"
+ "clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_64" "Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN" "Microsoft Corporation" "c:\windows\microsoft.net\framework64\v2.0.50727\mscorsvw.exe"
I don't see a reason for them to be running.

Go Start and in "Start search" type in:
services.msc
Press Enter.

In services window, find:
- clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_32
- clr_optimization_v2.0.50727_64
Stop them.
Right click on each one, click "Properties" and under "Startup type" set them to "Disable".

Restart computer.

I guess, we'll have some legwork to do.

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.

Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.

Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.

NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.

Same problem?

Broni, I must say you are a champion. The error message has now disappeared. Do I have to do anything else? Very much appreciate your assistance with this. Regards, Cameron

You're very welcome :)

You need to investigate little bit more, what is causing that error.
Go back to "msconfig" and re-enable ONE startup.
Restart computer.
No error?
If so, re-enable next startup and restart computer.
...and so on until you'll find the culprit.

Hi Broni,
Have followed your instructions and have isolated the program/files that caused the problem. For your information the startup items causing the problem were: lxdramon & lxdrmon.exe - both are to do with a Lexmark printer which were located in: Program Files(x86)\Lexmark 4900 Series\lxdramon.exe* and Program Files (x86)\Lexmark 4900 Series\lxdrmon.exe*

Thank you very much for your time and help with this and I have learnt something very valuable throughout this exercise as I have not the expertise or knowledge in doing what you did and found. Your assistance is very much appreciated. Regards, Cameron

Very good :)
No printer needs to run any startup, so you can safely leave those entries un-checked.
