dvdr writer replacement

Hi all, About to replace a dvdr and not to sure if I could use the sata interface on my asus P5S800-VM motherboard or use the currant ide set up.

Any advice would be welcome.

either would be acceptable. if you've got an open SATA port then the SATA drives will be faster than IDE.

Thanks , but still not sure which connector to choose, my motherboard manual shows two serial ATA connectors ( 7-PIN SATA1,SATA2 ) and states are for hard disk drives and a Raid 0 or Raid 1 configuration can be created using the onboard SIS 964 Raid controller. Does this mean only hard disk drives can use these connectors.

the sata ports should be perfectly fine for an optical drive as well as hard drives.
