hard drive won't read cd

I have a gateway pc running windows 98. My hard drive won't read any cd at all. I show a problem with dual fifo. How can I fix this?

where do you show this problem? in device manager?

Knowing the make and model of your motherboard would help as it could be special ide drivers are required.

You could delete the primary ide controller in devicemanger and reboot, allowing windows to reload the driver.

Yeah, I found the problem in device manager. I can usually fix most problems, I'm self taught, but I didn't know where to begin with this one. I'm using another computer to access the internet right now, but I don't have daily access. I'll try your suggestion and let you know if it works. Thank you!!
