Hello all. First time user on here. My question is: Can someone help me by letting me know what processes/applications I have running in the background that I don't need? I am trying to free up space and make my computer run faster. Is it possible I have loaded programs I may not need and they are running in the background. Thanks for any help. Im really just trying to get my computer into top performance. It's not that old and it feels it runs slow every now and then. Any help would be much appreciated.

Download Autoruns from the link in my signature below:
1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.
7: Attach to your next reply.

Go to Start then to Run
Type in compmgmt.msc and click Enter
On left side click on Disk Management
On right side you will see you hard drive.
Now I need you to take a screenshot and attach it to your next reply. Do the following to take a screenshot while the above is open and showing on your desktop.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Click the + by computer, click on Sensor. Get a screenshot and post it so I can check your temps and voltages...

DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"

Everest log looks good.

Open Autoruns, click on "Logon" tab, and UN-check:

"Adobe ARM"
"CanonMyPrinter"
"CanonSolutionMenu"

swg" "GoogleToolbarNotifier"

The next file needs to be manually disabled and is only needed if you use multi language on your keyboard. If you do then skip the step.


To turn off just ctfmon.exe go to:

Control Panel then to Regional and Language Options

Click on the Languages Tab then click the Details button

Click on the Advanced tab

Check the box that says Turn off advanced text services option

Click A and then OK



When done restart computer and then:



Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

• Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
• It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
• Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
• Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Download Auslogics Defrag from the link in my signature below. Auslogics Defrag in my opinion is better because:
It does a more comprehensive job at Defragging
It will actually show you what it is doing
At the end of working it will show you how much speed you picked up
You can view a online log of the files that Auslogics defragged

Now as just a suggestion:
These two programs eat up a lot of system resources which will slow your system down.

"AVG9_TRAY"
This is the AVG9 anti virus you have installed and running. I suggest uninstalling it and getting something like Avast
It has a smaller footprint so less of a resource hog..
Please download Avast from my signature below. Please make sure you do the registration as it is good for a year or more. When it is due simply just reregister it.
Avast in my opinion is better because:
It's FREE to the Home User
It Updates it's Definitions daily
You can scan Individual Files, Folders and Drives
No buying new versions every year

The other program is "SpybotSD TeaTimer"
This one is a iffy one as I know the Malware Techs use it but I like SuperAntSpyware myself. I say this for the same reason stated above.

Avast is a rela time scanner so it should protect you without having to do anything. It should update every morning and every night automatically.
Autoruns, get rid of
Everest get rid of.



TFC and Auslogics I would suggest keeping them and run them once a week. Run TFC first and the Defrag.

Do this for the temps.
Download Speedfan (The download link is to the right), and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows.
The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.
To make sure we are getting all the correct information it would help us if you were to attach a screenshot like the one below of your Speedfan results.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard.

• It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
• Now go to Start and then to All Programs
• Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
• In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
• Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
• Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop
• Attach it to your next reply

Okay, I've attached a screen shot while running that program for my temps. But, I noticed I don't have all those sections like you have circled in your photo. I just have the one that shows the temps. Is that okay?

Well temps are on the border but not a big issue. Just keep a eye on them. May not hurt if the system is not under warranty to open it up and use a can of compressed air to blow out the dust and make sure all fans are turning and nothing is stuck in them like those pesky dust bunnies.

Very nice. It doesn't seem as slow and I did notice it boot up a little bit faster. Thanks again for your help! I will continue to watch my temps and I have compressed air that I can use.

You are welcome and let me know if there is any other questions you may have or further steps you would like to try. I would also suggest maybe going into Add\Remove programs and maybe getting rid of some of those programs you no longer use.
After doing that make sure to rerun Auslogics defrag to straighten everything out again.
I also suggest running the TFC and Auslogics Defrag at least once a week to keep those temp files cleaned up and system in good working order.
