Using Win7 with MS Word 2007
I have a large multipage document. All of a sudden (I must have pressed something) I have what looks like and 8” X 10” (page size) rectangle on each page. How do I get rid of it, please.
Thanks, eddie460

Hey eddie460. :)

What sort of rectangle do you see? Is it filled in, or just a border around the page?

It is a line running around the top, bottom and left margins. On the right of the page the line runs an inch or so in from the margin and slices right through the text from top to bottom.
Thanks, Robin Hood for the response.

Hey again eddie460. :)

Glad I can be of service.

I have a couple of ideas you can try.

Firstly,

1. On the Home tab, locate the Paragraph group.
2. The bottom right button is the Borders button. Click the arrow beside it.
3. Select No Border

If that doesn't work:

Go to these articles by Microsoft and see if any of their solutions solve the problem:

If you still have no luck let me know. :)

Howdy eddie460. :)

That's ok.

Could you please take a screenshot of the word document with the lines please.

To take a screenshot of just the window:

1. Hold down the Alt key and Press Prt Scrn
2. Open Paint or something similar
3. Go to the Edit Menu
4. Click Paste
5. Go to File > Save As
5. Save the image as a jpeg
6. Upload it in your next post

You can also try this:

1. Click on the page with the lines
2. Press Ctrl + Q

This could delete the lines.

I was also wondering if you are able to select the lines? Are they covered when you have text/images or do they appear on top of these items?

Thanks. :)

Hey again. :)

Another idea occurred to me. :)

1. Place your mouse/cursor above one of the lines
2. From the menu, choose Page Layout
3. Click on Page Layout
4. Then click on Page Borders
5. Choose the Borders Tab
6. In the upper left select None
7. Hit Ok

O.K. I followed all directions, but could only do it in Word 2007. Now, I think the immage is here. It seems to be under ATTACHMENTS, MANAGE CURRENT ATTACHMENTS (1). However I cannot see it??
Thanks Robbin

Hey eddie460.

I have a question regarding the image you attached. I notice that after the box on the page the colour of the document changes. Is that normal?

Also, can you touch the box in any way with your mouse?

I don't get any color change when I touch the box. That is when I touch or play with the immage I sent you. Yes, I can touch inside the box and do any changes or additions and they appear bnnormally. Just the box is always there.
Also the box is only there in print layout view. It is not there in Draft, Web Lat Out or Full Screen views.

Hey eddie460. :)

Ok. If you print a page does it appear on the page as well?

And to confirm: you can't actually touch the box itself?

Hi again. :)

Thought of this.

1. Click on the Office Button > Word Options > Display
2. Check the boxes Print Drawings created in Word and Print Background colors and images
3. Go to Advanced
4. Scroll down to Show document content section
5. Check the boxes Show background colors and images
in Print Layout view
and Show drawings and text boxes on screen
6. Uncheck Show picture placeholders
7. Click Ok

Did all, of that and still no change. The box is still there/here. Yes, the box shows up when I print a page.

Ok. Don't worry, we will find a solution. :)

Try this:

Press Ctrl + Shift + C (if it is the reviewing pane or similar then it will close it).

Hey eddie460.

If the above solution doesn't work, give this a shot.

1. Close Word if open
2. Press the Windows Logo + R keys on your keyboard to get to the run window
3. Type %APPDATA% and click Ok
4. Double Click the Microsoft folder
5. Double Click the Templates folder
6. Delete all the files and folders in this folder
7. Close this window
8. Open Word
