I recently got a new laptop, and tried transferring the files from my old one (which had XP) onto the new one, but it seems as though the desktop I wanted to transfer has been consolidated into an "ntuser.dat" file? Is there any way I can recover this information in Windows 7, perhaps by making it a new profile?

Any help at all would be appreciated, I'm still just learning my way around this Windows 7 stuff!

Hey MikeHill. :)

With the laptop with XP, how did you try to transfer the files?

One way to do it is get all your files together and put them on a flashdrive, including your desktop background etc. That would prevent your desktop becoming a ntuser.dat file.
