Hi - Yesterday my computer was infected with the Netsky WORM. It will not let me access the registry. I cannot get online. I was able to at first and then it froze then I was unable to get online. My ISP seemed to think the internet connection was not related but I believe it is. I am able to access through another computer. I had XP and had a tough time trying to restore and when I did I reloaded Vista rather than XP. But, still unable to get online. When I had the ISP on the line they tried every which was to get a new IP address and they were unsuccessful. I was getting fake altert!htm messages but those stopped. I have McAfee and it caught 10 items but only able to remove 7. I bought Kaspersky and I was unable to load it to my computer - said a file was corrupt - I get that message about the registry as well as other things.

Any help is appreciated - thanks!

You might try a reload again but this time use a different folder say windows2. Windows will complain about two installs but it will work then when you boot you will get a choice of both.

Try Kaspersky's bootable CD from:

http://www.askvg.com...ure-and-others/

It's an iso file so you need to do a disk copy (from image) to get it to work then boot off it. It will scan your PC and fix a lot of things plus allows you to move files around.

Also get PC Regedit
from the link on the lower half of this page:
http://www.raymond.c...ing-in-windows/

The page explains how to use it to fix a no logon condition. In your case netsky usually messes winlogon too but if userinit looks normal then check the value of shell which should be explorer.exe.

From a recent post we can see these Netsky infection points in an OTL log:

O4 - HKLM..\Run: [notepad] C:\WINDOWS\System32\notepad.DLL (Microsoft)
O4 - HKLM..\Run: [tqammy] C:\WINDOWS\System32\msaouahn.DLL (USA)

NetSvcs: BtwSrv - C:\WINDOWS\system32\BtwSrv.dll (FTD2XX Software Technology)
NetSvcs: Iprip - C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ipripv32.dll ()

These last two will mess up your internet. See:

If in doubt compare to a working system.

You might want to run through our cleaning procedure and post your logs just to make sure.

Hi Ron -

I'm still having issues. I ran all the stuff from the page you referenced on here. It all appeared to be clean but when I got to the GMER Rootkit and it quit once - said there was an error. So, I ran it again and it went into some blue screen mode. I pressed enter and it went to a black screen that ask if I wanted to boot windows in safe mode or start normally. I chose to start normally. I am afraid to run it again...

thanks
