MS Ofiice 07, Word Problems

I"ve got Vista, on an HP laptop, I have been using Office 2007 for the last year or so, I had some trouble with CPU speed, removed AVG, ran other virus programs, nothing major found, disabled an .exe activity that was using 50% of my CPU. I can't open any of my old Word files, I get a message: "The file_______.doc is not available", I've repaired, i've unitstalled/reinstalled and still not able to open docs. I think I originally saved the docs in 97-2003 versions.

Any help would be great?
