Hi there.

I have noticed the "Traffic" section of my Comodo firewall recently and see that Avast (ashWebSv.exe) is sucking a good portion of my traffic at any given time. See the following:

Is this because Avast is chanelling all web traffic through itself, or is Avast simply stealing a ridiculous proportion of bandwidth for no reason? If so, why?

Many thanks!

Avast is real time protection so yes it is filtering your internet surfing through itself to keep you safe.
