This would seem to be a challenging request. If anyone is up for it, many thanks in advance.

My friend (Mr. White) handed me his laptop and said "fix this". He said it probably has a lot of viruses on it and he can no longer conncect to the internet. He would like to save media files on the HD but that is it. I assumed I could run some AV and handle 90%. I find out that Windows Security System is disabled and everytime I try and turn it on or add an internet connection, I get errors. I was able to run HijackThis before it totally went out on me.

If anything appears to be a glaring error at first glance, please flag it for me. If anyone would have a suggestion for where to start, please let me know. Mr. White claimed there was no AV on the computer, but I have seen evidence that some are present. I am unable to download any programs directly to the laptop but I can download from another computer and transfer them.

Thank you in advance.

Miguel

Nothing of any use in the HJT log. Suggest you burn a bootable copy of Kaspersky's CD

http://www.askvg.com...ure-and-others/

You can boot off it and scan for viruses and it also has a data recovery function in case you decide to wipe it and start over.

Thank you for looking. I've run Malwarebytes, now I'll try Kaspersky.
