DVD-ROM Drive suddenly stops reading CDs

My Client has a Tiny PC 900mhz, 256mb RAM, Windows ME

2 Days ago they were trying ot read a CD in their DVD-ROM Drive and it wouldnt work os they tried to in their DVD-RW drive and it also wont read the disk they get a 'Please Insert Disc' Window

BUT

Both Drives will play DVDs

we have Done virus scan, malware, spyware etc, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drives. They have not install any new software for a few months.
