hi,
try to follow these steps one by one.post if you are successful.

1.if you use Spybot S&D,you need to uncheck Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE. you will find this option under navigation\tools\IE Tweaks section in spybot.

2.if the above mentioned step is not for you,try this.take a backup of the windows registry.
navigate to the following keys delete the value NoBrowserOptions.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Restrictions]
"NoBrowserOptions"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Restrictions]
"NoBrowserOptions"=dword:00000001
this should work.

Hi Stallion,

Thanks for your advice, I do have spybot, but although I looked under tools
I couldn't find anything referring to internet explorer.
Looked in windows registry, but couldn't find exactly what you were referring to.
I'm no expert!! ;)

Could you perhaps talk me through it, or explain it in simple (blonde) terms!
Step by step.
I did a computer check up yesterday, and it said my internet browser cache
was 90mb, and much larger than it should be. I've never changed this, so it
must have been set up like that from new. Whenever I try to open options
under tools, it tells me restrictions are set. :tazz:
Hope you can help. Thanks

stallionsims pretty much covered it without actually being there :

Not Able to Access Internet Options from Internet Explorer’s Tools Menu

1) Click Start button then click Run. Type in regedit and click OK.
2) From Edit Menu in Registry Editor, click Find and either enter ‘restrictions’ (without quotes) or go directly to
KEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Restrictions. Right click on NoBrowserOptions in right window pane, select Modify. If Value data is 1, set to 0 (Base Hex selected by default). May have to restart computer for change to take effect.

From PC World’s Newsletter (24-Nov-04 3:31 PM) :
Then select Start, Run, type regedit, and press Enter. Navigate in the Registry Editor's left pane to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions. Select NoBrowserOptions, press Enter, and
change its value to 0. Do the same at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions. The easy workaround is to select Start, Settings, Control Panel (Start, Control Panel in XP) and double-click the Internet icon.

I do have spybot, but although I looked under tools
I couldn't find anything referring to internet explorer.

Start Spybot S&D, if you see Tools in left panel then click Tools. If not change to advanced Mode, click Mode in main menu bar and check Advanced mode, you should now see an item called IE tweaks. Click it and follow Major Payne's advice

if you use Spybot S&D,you need to uncheck Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE. you will find this option under navigation\tools\IE Tweaks section in spybot.

A simple Windows registry tutorial and Microsoft Description of the Registry

it said my internet browser cache
was 90mb, and much larger than it should be.

try CleanUp! :tazz:

Hi again guys,

Thanks for all your help. I've managed to get my options back!!
I tried to follow your advice, but didn't have much success, but then
typed in 'no browser options' in registry, it came up, couldn't find it
before?? It was set at 1, so clicked modify, and changed to 0.

I found it a bit confusing as my menu in registry didn't seem to look as
you said? Nothing was really coming up on the right hand side, I couldn't
find HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/microsoft/internet explorer/
restrictions ?

But its sorted out anyway, and I now have options, the restrictions must
have been there from new, or when pc went back to pc world for repair
at 3 months old.
Keep up the good work, I'm learning more everyday! :tazz:
