Outlook 2002 not syncing with phone

I just got a KYOCERA SE47 V5 VIRGIN MOBILE USB DATA CABLE w/SOFTWARE
and it instaled fine. I was able to download numbers from my phone, so it
recognizes the phone. When I try to sync Outlook 2002 (not express)
it says it cannot open the database. I made Outlook my default program etc.
I even tried installing MS Activesync; still it cannot open the Outlook database.
Do I need another version of Outlook ? I don't see syncronization anywhere in this program.
Please help.
