System Restore doesn't launch

So I have been working on my roomate's laptop to try to clean up a major infection. We have managed to get everything cleaned up in the malware forums, but there is still a lingering issue with system restore that they recommended I post here. So here's the main problem: the malware prevented the executable files of all virus software and it also prevented system restore from launching. All of the other software has been fixed with the malware cleanup, but still no system restore.

I tried to use the microsoft trouble shooting guide, but everything appears to be fine. The system restore is showing as monitoring the C: (on the system restore tab under computer properties) and in the system configuration, it is showing as running. However, if I try to launch it from the Start menu or from the system config, nothing happens. Also, upon searching I found an article telling me to look for it in the Computer Management under Service and Applicaions, but it's not there. The Services file is empty.

Is there any way to tell if it is still working? Can I fix it with Windows repair?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

open OTL click the none button, under the Services box, select All

Instead of trying so hard to fix system restore I would consider an alternative.ERUNT will do the same job but better. In Windows System Restore all restore points are linked in a way that when one is getting corrupted all other are getting corrupted too. With Erunt every restore point is an individual file, which make it much safer.

I agree ERUNT is better, but we should try fix system restore if possible. Its an important safety net to have too.

I use ERUNT on my desktop and have downloaded to roomate's laptop, but I would like system restore to be on her computer for a couple of reasons. First she is technologically declined, she will have no idea what is going on with system restore much less with any other software I try to show her. Second, she will most likely always have someone else working on her computer. That someone may or may not be familiar with ERUNT. And lastly, I know you can boot the system restore if something is wrong with windows (I am not familiar with ERUNT recoveries enough to know if it does the same).

I am not seeing the logs I posted but am pretty sure I did everything requested. If not, please let me know. Any other ideas for me to try? Can windows repair fix it?

open OTL click the none button, paste this in the custom scan box


net start srservice /c
CREATERESTOREPOINT


Click Run scan post the log it gives
