I have heard that there is a function within the BMC Remedy Console that will allow discovery of any computer on a given network. If anyone knows how to do this or of any other software that can perform such a discovery. Ideally the information I am looking for would be computer name, ip address, and location (rj-45 port number)

the solarwinds ip address tracker (Link to downloads page will scan a given subnet and report the ip, hostname (if available), etc.. but you can't get a port number off of it. that would actually require a network infrastructure that's capable of reporting that info...which is rare (i think some cisco gear will give some of that info, but you've usually got to log into the switch to get to it)
