My PC was displaying a blue screen that displayed a message saying there as a fatal error and the error was cause by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c Now it's showing a black screen

My PC has a red icon in the taskbar with an X on it...origins unknown and my desktop has all sorts of unwanted icons. I'm getting numerous pop-ups even when I'm offline... and when I'm online, pop-ups occur randomly and my home page is all wrong.

I am using Windows XP SP1 and I've run Spybot, Adware, Trojan Remover, and Anti Spyware Beta to no avail. Below is my HijackThis log.

Thanks for the response!

I downloaded the SP 1a, but it won't install on my PC. I keep getting the message:

Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer.

Also, when I try to go to the Windows update site, I keep getting blank pages. Even when I click the automatic update option from my control panel. I restored all he files that SpySubtract, Ad-Aware and Ewido quarantined, and my PC is basically back to square one. The plethora of ridiculous icons are back. Numerous pop-ups, and I'm not the PC expert here, but I think whatever's goin on has attached itself to EVERYTHING. Because my keyboard shortcut keys didn't work after I ran that first Ewido, now that I've restored everything. I can use them again.

1.) Download The Hoster Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

2.) Right-Click HERE and Save As to download DelDomains.inf to your desktop.
To use: RIGHT-CLICK DelDomains.inf on your desktop and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

3.) Download, install, and run CleanUp!

4.) Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan.

Please disable microsoft antispyware.

Click Start > Run > type services.msc, then click OK
Scroll down and right click on 'COM+ System Service'
Select 'Properties' and set the "Service Status" option to "Stop"
Set "Startup type" to "Disabled", click Apply, then OK.

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.

Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the [b]full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Please reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look to see how we did.
