Hello...

I am getting the following STOP error.

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF79FE528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I am pretty computer savvy but do not know where to start with this one. I did try to reboot and start in the safe mode but no go.

This is a friend's laptop so I am not sure what they were doing at this time this happened. I am going to go with it probably has a virus.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Possible hard drive problem.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, unfortunately, you're out of luck, because Toshiba doesn't provide any diagnostic tool.

Since the laptop is not bootable, you'll have to open hard drive bay and take a look.

It's a Fujitsu. I was able to run the diagnostics software that is installed on the Dell after pressing F2. I received the following errors:

Error code:0F00:0244 and 0F00:1A44
Msg Block 6435445 and 6435446

"Uncorrectable data error or media is write protected"

I researched the error codes and appears the HD may be toast. I changed the boot order so it would read the CD drive first. I was able to boot KNOPPIX from a CD and view the files located on the HD of the Dell. So I am able, or one would think, to copy the files from the Dell to an external HD.

:) Thank you for your help thus far!
