Hello,

I've taken a look at a number of threads here but none appear to address the specific issue I am having.

The computer boots into Windows but none of the desktop icons load. After about 1 minute, it says "logging off" then takes me back to the user select menu.

Will not boot into safe mode.
Will not boot using Last Known Good Configuration.
Do not have original Win XP disks.
Older Dell, not sure if it has a recovery partition, doesn't appear as an option.

I attempted to run a virus scan using a bootable virus disk but it came up with nothing.

I am thoroughly lost at this point! Any help you can offer is appreciated.

when you can't even boot into safe mode you will have to repair xp...
for the how to repair your operating system guides...
go here...

if you don't have a xp cd you will have to borrow one from a friend or coworker...
it has to be the same flavor of xp you have installed...IE: if you have xp pro...the one you borrow has to be xp pro
