I have just reformated a computer running Windows XP Home. I am trying to configure it to access the internet just as it did before. I have a Linksys wireless router and a Toshiba modem. The computer itself is hardwired into the lan1 port of the router which is connected to the modem via the internet port. This has always worked in the past and does work on an older desktop computer that I have. What do I need to do to get it to connect to the internet?

What was used to reinstall Windows? Recovery CD/partition, or Windows XP CD?
If the latter, did you install chipset driver?
Any errors in Device Manager?

Well, most likely, you need to install some drivers, starting with chipset driver.
What's the computer brand and model?

Go to Dell's site, enter your computer service tag number.
Download and install chipset driver.
When done, go to Device Manager and see what other drivers are missing.
Download and install those as well.

I dont think the computer is picking up the modem. I have no connections in the network connections screen or anything. I have other computers including this one running off of wireless and another old desktop that will run wired to the router so the modem is fine.
