:) I finally gave up getting my machine cleaned so did a clean install of XP Home. Everything was going great, but half way through reinstalling programs the "C" drive icon changed to the icon you see when Windows can't find a program to open a file.
When I click it C opens properly
I have tried the right-click rebuild, and change icon. Nothing works. I tried TweakUI and no help there.
everything seems to work OK but.....
Valid Windows XP Home, all updates applied.
2GB Memory.Core Duo
Thanks

Have a look in the 'root' of your C drive (ie not in a folder).
If you see a file named autorun.inf, delete it and restart Windows.
