What signs indicate a messed up MOBO.

my light goes on as well as power to cpu fan grafix etc but wont go into CMOS/POST

the mb is the most versitile thing in your case. there are thousands of little swicks, conductors, wires, transistors, ect that run different things. grounding the A1 ram port will do only one thing... disable the A1 ram port. If you shocked the cpu connection or the vga connection, they wont work, but everything else still will. thats why ESD protection is so important.

Yeh, i would maybe take it to a phone shop. Phones sometimes just crash out on you.

take a look at some other threads about 'computer wont turn on but lights do' and such. check the atx power to the processer, the memory in the right place, and blown capacitors. it probably is a simple fix.
