My OS is Win XP Home SP3 and I have a Philips Sonic Edge soundcard installed. I have a set of VideoLogik 5.1 speakers with a sub woofer. My old monitor did not have speakers and so the 5.1 config in Win Sounds and Audio devices was a no brainer but today I have bought and installed a new widescreen monitor with two inbuilt speakers. When I installed the monitor I did not attach the inbuilt speakers and just set it up as 5.1 as I have previously used it. Looking through the sound options in Windows there is a 7.1 surround sound option. My question is, would it be possible to connect the monitors inbuilt speakers to the line -in on my Philips sound card and use the 7.1 option in Windows ie, the 5.1 Videologik unit + the 2 built in monitor speakers or would I need a sound card specifically built with on board 7.1 sound?.
