Looking for some help here. A couple months ago I was attempting to watch a movie in WMP and it demanded a video codec I had never heard of and directed me to install it. Being the genius that I am I went ahead and boom, all of a sudden Vista ceases updating, Firefox and IE8 crash whenever I open them, I can't install any antivirus software, and the whole system periodically restarts for no reason. The only browser I got to work was Google Chrome. I was recommended the Glary registry repair software and it identified quite a few errors but none of them solved my problems.

Follow the guide:
http://www.geekstogo...uide-t2852.html
and post your logs (copy and paste do not use the attachment option).

Firefox has a Safe Mode option which you get to by Start, Programs, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). Does that crash too?
