when i try to use my computer on batteries it will run for about 10 minutes and shut down, i mean turn off. like if i press and hold the power button and shut it off. i dont like to shut the computer off like this.

the battery shows 100% full charge so i am wondering if it is the battery or a softwear issue.

Sounds more like a heating issue.
Have you checked the vents for dust and anything that may be blocking air flow?
When you run it on electric does the issue happen then?

it works good while on the power cord but when i try to use it on the batteries it will cut off in about 5 to 10 minutes.

I would look at the battery as a problem. They do not last forever and they are known to show 100% and not last.
Unfortunately there is no way to be sure with out replacing it.

I have to agree with 123Runner about the batteries. We have seen several lately where batteries show fully charged and do not last more then 15 minutes.
How old is the battery?

battery is only about a year old. it was working fine, then i noticed that i would boot the computer and after about 10 minutes i would find the computer turned off and i would have to turn it on again.

It could be a faulty battery, or a failing adapter or maybe even power saving options ahve changed somehow to shut the system down.

that i was kinda what i was thinking. maybe some power saving options had changed or something changed when i removed some programs.
maybe i did it when i was in the system with the screen saver.

Your power options will be located at....

Go to start....control panel.....power options

Look at all the power schemes.
The power saving schemes are generally when the device (monitor, harddrive) has had inactivity.
I don't think its a power setting.
A power scheme is not going to cause it to just shut off after 10 minutes. It needs no activity.

on power schemes which one should i set my computer on? portable/laptop, max battery or one of the other options? ihave always wondered this. ihave always used the portable/laptop because thisis what itis but i wondered why it gave you other options.

i will try different settings and see what happens. what settings do you recoment?

I don't use any on my system.
In fact my system stays on 24\7
Put a screen saver on and that way your screen doesn't burn..
Just my opinion.

My computers are on 24/7 also.
On the company laptop I do not use any power savers because of the programs I run while fixing equipment.

As I said, a power scheme will only happen after a specified time of inactivity on the laptop/ desktop.
I do not believe that is your problem.

You state the battery shows 100% charge, but what is the charge when it 1st turns on after it dies while on battery?
