Vista System Sound Issue

I've been trying to customize my Vista system sounds. I have some .wav files I want to use in my documents folder, and it works perfectly fine when I open them in iTunes and WMP, but when I go to Hardware and Sound to make the adjustment they don't play when they are supposed to. I hit the test button and hear nothing, nor do they start working when I hit OK.
