usb freezes when usb putting in jump drive

When i plug in my flash drive or my families, the computer stop responding. All other usb devices work. 3 ports up front and 4-5 on back. recently install additonal cd drive on comnputer. also use dads hard drive to get pic off his hd cause his crash. they no longer installed.
